Article 19

Article 19 is a London Based international human rights organization that works to defend and promote freedom of expression worldwide. It was founded in 1987. The organization takes its name from Article 19 of the ‘Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

Article 19 of UDHR as follows:

‘Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; the right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media regardless of frontiers’.

This organization monitors threats to freedom of expression around the globe; works with different governments to adopt laws that ensure international standards of press freedom.
